Irvine Welsh knocked out by glass door after Trainspotting bash with ‘drugs everywhere’, says pal Noel Gallagher

IRVINE Welsh was knocked out by slamming into a glass door after a party celebrating Trainspotting’s film release, Noel Gallagher claims.

The Oasis legend, 52, told how his Scots author pal, 61, cracked his head before collapsing unconscious in the freak accident in a luxury hotel suite.

But Gallagher revealed nobody called for emergency help because they feared being nicked over a stash of Class A drugs littering the room at the Hotel du Cap-Eden Roc in southern France.

Noel — who tried to revive Welsh along with music producer Nellee Hooper — said of the 1996 drama: “I spent the night with him and we ended up in my room.

“My room had these big glass double doors opening onto the balcony that were so beautiful and shiny that they looked like there was no glass in them.

“Irvine walked straight into them and knocked himself out. Me and Nellee were sat on the bed going, ‘What do we do? We can’t call an ambulance because we’ve got s**loads of drugs everywhere’.

“We were kind of booting him — ‘Irvine? Irvine?’. We had to wait till he came round.” The celeb chums had gathered to mark the star-studded premiere of Danny Boyle’s adaptation of Welsh’s classic novel at the Cannes Film Festival.

There is no suggestion that any of the A-listers who attended the bash had been taking drugs.

In a joint interview, Welsh — who kicked his heroin addiction in his 20s — mocked the glitzy film event.

The writer, from Leith, Edinburgh, said: “The festival was a celebration of false intimacy and smarm, with the air-kiss and phoney handshake almost obligatory.”

The Scottish Sun on Sunday contacted Welsh for comment.
